Privacy Policy
Your memo. Your choice of where it’s processed.
The short version: your saved library lives on your device. Apple’s on-device mode processes audio and text locally. If you choose a cloud mode, the content needed for that request goes to OpenAI, either directly with your own key or through AIProxy with Mono Plus.
Who we are
Mono is provided by Good Snooze (Jordi Bruin). We are responsible for the personal data we process to provide the app, this website, and support. For privacy questions or requests, email [email protected].
What stays on your device
Mono saves imported audio, transcripts, summaries, chapters, questions, tasks, replies, and memo details in its local library. Settings and your custom word list are also stored locally. The app and share extension use shared storage to hand imported files and processing progress between them. No Mono account is required, and Mono does not provide a developer-hosted cloud library.
If you add an OpenAI API key, it is stored in Apple’s Keychain, with access shared between Mono and its share extension. It is used for your direct OpenAI requests, not sent to AIProxy. You can remove it in Settings.
When you choose Apple’s on-device models
Audio transcription and AI organization run on your device. Mono does not send your audio or transcript to OpenAI or AIProxy in this mode. Apple may need to download speech or model resources, and availability depends on your device, operating system, and language.
When you choose cloud processing
Transcription sends your selected audio to OpenAI. Summaries, chapters, questions, tasks, and reply polishing send the relevant transcript or text, your instructions, and any custom words needed for the request. Reply polishing can include the original question or passage and your draft reply. Audio and text may contain personal information about you or other speakers; only process recordings you are entitled to use.
- Your own OpenAI key: requests go directly to OpenAI under your account and its terms.
- Mono Cloud: requests pass through AIProxy to OpenAI using the service provided with Mono Plus. AIProxy also processes technical information to authenticate requests, protect the service, and measure usage.
OpenAI’s retention and data controls depend on the endpoint, account settings, and applicable requirements. Mono asks OpenAI not to store text responses as retrievable response records; this does not disable all provider security logging. Read OpenAI’s API data controls for its processing and retention details.
AIProxy’s policy states that it retains request IP addresses, response status codes, usage metadata (such as token counts and audio size or length), and error response bodies for 30 days. This information is available in the service’s developer dashboard for operation and troubleshooting. See the AIProxy Privacy Policy.
Purchases, support, and diagnostics
Apple handles App Store payments. Mono uses StoreKit purchase information, such as product identifiers, verification status, and expiration or revocation details, to determine access to Mono Cloud. We do not receive your payment card details.
If you email us, we receive your email address and the information you choose to include. Processing diagnostics can contain API responses, transcript text, and draft replies in the app’s progress information or device development logs. Review diagnostic reports before sharing them, and avoid sending recordings or API keys unless they are necessary for your request. We do not automatically upload these app diagnostic reports to a separate support service.
How long information is kept
Saved memos remain in your local library until you delete them. Swipe a recording in the library to delete its local saved content. Imported files and processing checkpoints can remain in the shared app storage while an import is pending. Device backups may retain app data according to your Apple backup settings.
Deleting a memo does not delete the original file in another app, copies you have shared, existing backups, or provider logs. Cloud providers retain data according to their policies and applicable requirements. We retain support correspondence while needed to handle the request and any related legal obligations.
Why we process data and who receives it
We process information to provide the processing and purchase features you request, answer support questions, keep the service secure and reliable, and meet legal obligations. Where applicable, our legal bases are performance of a contract, legitimate interests in security and customer support, compliance with legal obligations, and consent where a specific optional activity requires it. You can withdraw consent for such activities without affecting earlier lawful processing.
Recipients include the processing providers you choose, Apple for purchases and platform services, and providers that host this website or deliver support email. We may disclose information where legally required or necessary to protect lawful rights. If you share a transcript or reply, the recipients and apps you select handle that copy under their own policies.
Providers may process information outside your country, including in the United States. Their privacy and data-processing terms describe applicable transfer safeguards. Contact us for information about safeguards relevant to your use of Mono.
This website
This site displays app information and screenshots with fictional sample conversations. It has no account, upload form, advertising, or analytics scripts. We do not add advertising or analytics cookies. Our hosting infrastructure uses Cloudflare security cookies and checks to protect against automated abuse. The hosting infrastructure may process routine request and security information, such as IP addresses, requested pages, browser details, and request times, to deliver and protect the site.
Your choices and rights
You can choose on-device processing, remove your API key, edit your custom words, delete local memos, and decide what to share. Depending on your location, you may also have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a portable copy of personal data we hold. Contact us to exercise these rights. We may need enough information to verify the request, and legal exceptions can apply.
You can complain to your local data protection authority, including the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens in the Netherlands. Mono’ AI features organize content; they do not make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects about you.
Children and changes to this policy
Mono is not directed at children. If you believe a child’s personal data has been sent to us inappropriately, contact us so we can investigate. We will update the date on this page when this policy changes and provide additional notice where required.
